Summer Fun: Adventures for Kids!

Here's our guide to family-friendly things to do within an hour's drive of White Post Cottages this Summer - whether you are staying in Woodlands or Wagtails we've got you covered when it comes to Summer fun!

  • Sheppy's Cider Farm (Bradford-on-Tone, TA4 1ER): Not just for adults! Sheppy's offers marked walking trails through their orchards, a children's playground, duck pond, and animal encounters with goats, donkeys, cows, and chickens. There's also a farm shop, deli, and cafe/restaurant.

  • Hestercombe Gardens (Taunton, TA2 8ES): Explore 50 acres of beautiful gardens with diverse designs. They often have family-friendly events and trails, and the restored watermill complex is fascinating.

  • Wimbleball Lake (Dulverton, TA22 9NU): Located in Exmoor National Park, this lake offers various watersports and outdoor activities, and beautiful scenery for walks. (Approx. 45-60 min drive)View acrooss the lake with water reflecting the sky and boats on the shore

  • Museum of Somerset (Taunton Castle, TA1 4AA): Located in a historic castle, this museum tells the story of Somerset with interactive exhibits. They host regular family drop-in sessions and special events throughout the year. Free entry!

  • West Somerset Railway (Bishops Lydeard, TA4 3BX - nearest station): Take a nostalgic steam train journey through the Quantock Hills and along the coast. You can hop off at charming towns like Dunster (with its castle) or Watchet (a historic harbour).

  • Dunster Castle (Dunster, Minehead, TA24 6SL): A magnificent medieval castle and country house managed by the National Trust. Explore the castle's interiors, wander through the beautiful terraced gardens, and enjoy the views. There's also a working watermill and often family-friendly trails or activities.   • Diggerland Devon (Cullompton, EX15 2PE): A unique theme park where kids and adults can actually ride, drive, and operate real diggers and other construction machinery! Definitely a hit for anyone who loves big machines. (Approx. 30-45 min drive)

  • Tropiquaria Wildlife Park (Washford, TA23 0QB): See reptiles, fish, free-flying birds, and other animals like meerkats and gibbons. They offer animal encounters, puppet shows, and have indoor and outdoor play areas, including a pirate ship. (Approx. 40-50 min drive)

Just in case the British weather isn't playing ball here are a few wet weather activites we love.

  • Flip Out Somerset (Wellington, TA21 9HY): A massive indoor adventure park with trampolines, battle-beams, a tumble-track, and more. Great for burning off energy on a rainy day.

  • Space Adventurers (Taunton, TA1 2PG): An indoor play area designed for children up to 12 years old, offering an "out of this world" experience.

  • Hollywood Bowl Taunton (Taunton, TA1 2AN): Classic family fun with tenpin bowling lanes. They have bumpers and ramps available for younger children.

  • Wellesley Cinema Wellington (Wellington, TA21 8AU): A charming, historic Art Deco picture house that as well as showing a variety of current films, also offers popcorn, pic'n'mix, hot drinks, alcoholic drinks and more!

Remember to check opening times and book tickets in advance, especially for popular attractions or during peak seasons.
